How Pet Flea Collars Work

Many people consider their pets an essential part of their lives. Cats and dogs alike are part of the family, with their friendly, loyal personalities and comforting companionship. Just like family, we don’t want them to suffer. Unfortunately, millions of cats and dogs suffer every year from painful and potentially life threatening flea and tick infestations. Some cases are so bad that the animal is constantly itching and biting himself, causing even more harm. What’s worse is that the fleas and ticks can be easily transmitted to humans and their homes. In this scenario, the owner could end up paying hundred of dollars to fumigate their home. All this discomfort can be avoided with a simple visit to the pet store and getting flea collars for their pets.

Flea collars are one of the many wonders of modern science. Made from plastic resins and pesticides, a flea collar is simple to use and can last either three, six, or twelve months! Best of all, it’s non-toxic to your beloved pet.

When purchasing a flea collar for your pet, there are two things to take into consideration  does the animal already have fleas, and do you have small children? If the first is true, you will need to give your cat or dog a preliminary bath in flea and tick killing shampoo. Otherwise, the flea collars will be ineffective.

If the latter is true, you will need to keep the animal away from your child. Children are much more sensitive to chemicals than adults, and may accidentally ingest the powder that coats the collar.

Flea collars work by attacking the cause of fleas’ larvae. When fleas infest an animal or its bedding, they lay their eggs. Because of this, an animal can be infested with as many as a million fleas within a year. Flea collars nip this problem in the bud.

A mistake that many owners make is that they can put flea collars designed for dogs on cats, and vice versa. This should never be done, because the doses of flea killing medication are different. Collars designed for dogs may kill a cat, and cat collars are ineffective on a dog.

Using a flea collar is quite simple. With its flexible and durable construction, you don’t need to worry about cracking or breakage. When you remove the collar from its box, you’ll find that the collar is usually much too long for your pet. This is to ensure that the fit is perfectly tailored to your pet. When putting the collar on your dog or cat, make sure you can easily slip one finger between the animals neck and the collar. Once buckled, use a pair of scissors to cut off any excess length of collar. Now you are ready to enjoy bonding time with your furry friend, comfortably and safely.

Dog Gift Baskets Because Dogs Are Family Too

Dog gift baskets can be the ideal present for dog owners who simply adore their pets.

I am one of those people that think animals are just as important in the family as anyone else. Obviously they are not people, but I never like to leave them out when it comes time to buy gifts for the holidays. I have a few friends with dogs, and each year I get them small dog gift baskets. My friends always think this is funny, but they also love that I do it. I get something for my cats each year, so why should I leave the dogs out of the mix?

I try to get different things when I make up my dog gift baskets each year, and it is kind of hard. There are only so many things that dogs need and enjoy, so the variety of things to buy and put into the baskets is rather limited. I keep the dog gift baskets small, so that way I am not rerunning the same things each year. Granted, the dogs would never know, and really wouldn’t care, but that is just the way I am. They pretty much sniff it and walk away, but I do know they enjoy the goodies once their owners get them out and give them to them.

What is great about making dog gift baskets is that you can put whatever you want in them, and you don’t have to spend a lot to have them be appreciated. For the most part, you want to think about treats and special toys that you can fit in a small basket for the dog. You may be able to get things like collars and leashes, but the owners may not want to use things like that when they did not pick them out on their own. If it is a smaller dog, you may even want to get things like sweaters that might keep them warm in the winter.

Though you may find making your own dog gift baskets fun, you don’t have to if you don’t have the time or you think something else would be better. You can find already made dog gift baskets in many stores, and you can find some really great ones online you can order. You can have them sent to your home, or you can have them delivered to the recipient if you are not getting them for your own pets. Some companies will even put the pet’s name right on package, in care of the owners, of course, so it does not get lost.

There are many cultures that hold animals in high esteem. Many ancient religions were based on the worship of animals. In the United States people spend millions of dollars annually on the care and pampering of their pets. Over the past several years many exotic animals are being taken as pets; however the dog and cat is still the favorite pet. Selling supplies for pets is a multi million dollar industry.

A friend of mine has remained single. She lives a full life, working, golfing, volunteering and recently she bought a town home. Now that she is a home owner she also bought herself a small house dog. This is a huge change for her because she has spent her entire adult life not having to care for anyone or anything but herself, now she needs to plan her schedule around the care of the dog. This friend has a very generous spirit. She has given many shower and wedding gifts as well as baby gifts to friends. I decided that a group of us should get together and give her a house warming party as well as a shower for the adoption of her new pet. It would be a way for us to give back to her. I suggested different things that are needed when owning a home for the first time as well as items for dog gift baskets. I had seen her with the new dog and she treats him like a baby. I decided that dog gift baskets would be the way to go. Several of us decided that we would do the dog gift baskets together. In one we put several different kinds of treats. In another we placed several collars and leashes as well as a doggy rain coat, sweater, and sun glasses for when she takes him on a walk. In the third dog gift basket we placed several chew toys and raw hides so that the dog would have something to do during the day when his owner was at work.

Our friend was delighted with the house warming gifts as well as the dog gift baskets. We had told her that we were coming over and that she needed to have coffee on and paper plates set out. We brought appetizers, wine and several different desserts to share while she opened her gifts. She is so excited about her new home and the new stage of her life. She has already met several people in her neighborhood. She has plans for developing a small flower garden next spring. So far owning property has been a great pleasure for her.

Designer Dog Collars For The Dog Who Has Everything

Dog Collars Designed To Make Your Dog Look Doggone Good!
Let’s face it, everything about your appearance, your company, and your possessions reflect on you. From your house to your kids to your cars, people will judge you by what you have, and how those close to you act. Even your pets reflect upon you. That is why having the right designer dog collars is so important. Through a designer dog collar, you can show everyone that you have a handle on life. You know that appearance is the most important priority. You take care of everything, down to the smallest touch. If even your dog is fashionable, your life is pretty together!

Pick The Right Stylish Dog Collar To Suit Their Personality
Of course, there are a wide variety of stylish dog collars. Dog collars look so good, in fact, that they’ve been picked up by the punk rock industry as neck wear. Nonetheless, some designer dog collars clearly outshine others. The important thing is to properly accessorize your pet. Having designer dog collars and designer cat collars that look good on their own is fine, but if they do not match the pet that is wearing them, all the work is lost. For example, a poodle should not have a spiky leather dog collar unless the intention is ironic. Similarly, for your big tough great Dane, you should not get a little pink bow. Designer dog collars need to look like the dog that is wearing them. Let the tough dogs have tough looking dog collars. Let the pretty little toy poodles have pretty little toy dog collars. You should take your dog’s fashion as seriously as your own.

Dog Diets To Help Your Dog Look Good On The Inside Too
There are a number of other dog pet supplies that affect how your dog looks. Most people don’t realize the importance of a proper diet for a dog, which is strange because they know how important a proper diet is for themselves. Aside from a designer dog collar, the dog’s diet is the most important factor in how it looks. Designer dog collars can decorate a dog, but the diet – combined with proper exercise – determines how the dog will behave, how it’s coat will look, and how people will react to it.

Practice Your Dog Collar Fashion
Of course, picking out designer dog collars can be tough. Most of us don’t think about dogs as clothing wearing creatures. Even people who are great at accessorizing often have trouble picking out the right fashion dog collar for their dog. The key is to persist. If you can’t find the right one right away, you probably will get it on the second try.

Designer Dog Collars Going Mainstream
Have you ever seen merchandise and thought to yourself who in the world is going to buy that? You know the kind of items I mean. Items that are either tacky or very expensive. Every time I am out shopping I seem to run across something that fits this description. I also seem to run across the people that purchase the items.

A few weeks ago I was out shopping in a major mall when I noticed that they had opened a new gift shop. There are a wide variety of high-end gifts. There was one section that was reserved for designer dog collars and other assorted gifts and apparel for man’s best friend. Across from this section was another display of items for pet cats. The designer dog collars caught my eye because some of them were locked in a display case because they contained gemstones and were worth several hundred dollars. Other of the designer dog collars were on opened display racks. They featured designers names engraved or embroidered on the collars. These of course could be customized with your pet’s name. My husband was with me and we laughed that we should get one of the gemstone collars for our yellow Labrador retriever for his next hunting trip out to the duck slough.

Don’t Let Your Dog Leave Home Without Their Fashionable Dog Collar!
A week later my husband and I were invited to our neighbor’s home for an open house. We do not spend a great deal of time with these neighbors; they tend to run in a different social circle than we do. When we arrived at their home their maid took our coats and directed us to the great room area where the guests had gathered. Once in this room our hostess greeted us. She was holding their small black house dog. Around his neck the dog had on one of the designer dog collars with several large gemstones. The designer dog collar was leather with gold and silver inlaid along with the stones. The hostess saw me looking at the collar and was quick to inform me that she had purchased it at a darling new shop in the mall. She also pointed out that the collar was custom done. The gemstones were the birthstones of her dog’s parents as well as her dog. She was very pleased that such a fine store opened within our community.

On our way home my husband asked me how much I thought the designer dog collar cost. I told him that I did not know, but that all the dogs in the neighborhood would be very jealous if the price of the designer collar ever got out.
